How I Like to Make Mine:

Shrimp & Grits In 30 Minutes: (serves 1)


Start your grits before you start the shrimp. 

Your favorite brand of grits

Water, cream, or broth

Cheese (optional)

Salt & pepper to taste

I like my grits to simmer for about 30 minutes. This allows them to get soft and creamy as they release their starch and soak up the liquid.

Start by following the instructions on the back of your favorite grits package. Make sure to salt and pepper your grits to your taste, there is nothing worse than unsalted grits. Consider that if you add cheese, you won’t need as much salt.

While the grits are simmering, add about a ½ cup of milk, cream, or broth and stir to incorporate. I also add about a ½ cup of cheese and stir to melt in. I use whatever cheese I have on hand and sometimes I use multiple cheeses. If the grits are too thick you can keep adding liquid until you get the consistency you like.

Shrimp & Gravy:

½ stalk of celery finely diced

¼ small onion finely diced

½ slice bacon or 1/8 cup chopped andouille or any other smoky meat you may have on hand (optional)

1 garlic clove finely diced or ¼ tsp. garlic powder

1 green onion or parsley chopped for garnish (optional)

½  cup chicken or veggie stock

¼ cup cheese of your choice (optional)

5-6 peeled & deveined shrimp

1-2 spoonful’s Original or Spicy Bouillon Butter

Sautee’ onion & celery in a skillet with a little bit of olive oil over medium low heat. Add your diced meat and stir to combine for about a minute. Add the shrimp and continue to sautee’ for another minute. Add the Bouillon Butter stir and sautee’ until the shrimp are cooked through, approximately 2-3 minutes.

Spoon grits into a bowl, add the shrimp and gravy on top and Enjoy!
